Curtain Wall Firestop Design
Edge of Slab Firestopping per Section 715.4 of the IBC/CBC is one of the most misunderstood and challenging scopes of passive fire protection in high rise construction. It also is the scope of work we see the most untested conditions being installed raising risk and liability to a building owner and delays and change orders to a contractor. Taking a few extra steps during preconstruction and during installation can drastically help reduce risk and improve the overall fire protection of the exterior when required. FireWise Consultants excels at this scope of work by providing a comprehensive detailed review and design as early as possible to help designers and contractors understand what can be allowed, where protection is required and how much goes into the installation with each modification of appearance. Contact us today to understand how we can assist all of your projects in just a few short hours:
Pre Construction Plan ReviewFireWise Consultants can provide a detailed plan review prior to Permit of the Architectural and Curtain Wall Shop drawings to pinpoint issues with the current proposed design well before construction. This review can be done via BlueBeam Session and a Comment Log is provided to help streamline the process and delagate tasks to other parties involved. Many times these exteriors are developed without taking into consideration how the Fire protection will be maintained per section 715.4 of the Building Code creating numerous untested conditions and additions to the price of installation. By taking the proactive approach to properly design your exterior Firestopping system you will reduce liability, installation cost and delays on this challenging and expensive scope of Building Fire Protection.

Firestop System Selection or Engineering Judgment Development Once conditions are pinpointed and design has been completed FireWise Consultants can work with your exterior contractor and all of the available Firestop Manufacturers to recommend the best tested listed systems to maintain protection where required. If Engineering Judgments are required we can provide recommendations on which manufacturer has the closest tested listed systems and work to provide the most complete detail to reduce questions during AHJ review and installation. We also can provide third party reviews of the Engineering Judgment.
